This Week

The No. 6-ranked Arizona baseball team will head off to Sacramento, Calif., this weekend for a pair of games against UC Irvine and one against host Sac State ... Game times for the contests are 2 p.m. on Friday against the Anteaters, 10 a.m. on Saturday for the second contest against UCI and 3 p.m. on Saturday for the match up with the Hornets ... Arizona’s two contests against UCI will mark the first neutral site games for Arizona this season ... There will be no radio for any of the games this weekend.

Against The Opposition

Arizona is 14-4-1 all-time against UC Irvine in a series that dates back to 1971 ... UCI won twice and tied Arizona in Tucson in the regular season last year, but the Wildcats won 7-3 over the Anteaters in the opening game of the South Bend Regional during UA’s run 2004 postseason run to the College World Series ... The Wildcats are currently 4-3 against Sac State in a series that dates back to 1994 ... UA took two of three from the visiting Hornets at Kindall Field in Tucson last season and is 1-0 all-time at Hornet Field.

Hornet Field

The last time Arizona traveled to Sacramento, Calif., the Wildcats had a historic day offensively. UA defeated the Hornets 21-13 on the strength of a school record-tying seven home runs on April 28, 2003. The Arizona offense finished that contest with 48 total plate appearances and left ZERO runners on base in the game. Individually, current junior Brad Boyer tied Arizona’s single-game record for runs scored with six, while hitting three doubles and home run to finish the game 4 for 5 with four RBI. Classmate Derek Decater drove in a career-high six runners and hit two home runs as part of a 3 for 4, three-run day at the plate.

About Arizona

The Wildcats have won nine of their last 10 games and are currently 27-11 overall and in first place in the Pac-10 with a 10-2 conference record ... Arizona slugged six home runs, seven doubles and a triple in a 14-3 win over New Mexico in Albuquerque on Tuesday ... This week will mark the final non-conference road trip of the season for Arizona ... The Wildcats are currently 17-9 overall out of the Pac-10 and 4-3 in road non-conference games.

Leaders of the Pac

Heading into the week of play the first-place Wildcats led the conference in average (.334), slugging (.525), runs (321), hits (454), RBI (286), doubles (97), triples (23), total bases (714) and walks (180). The conference does not update the stats to reflect mid-week games and therefore none of the 14 runs, 18 hits, six home runs, seven doubles or the triple that Arizona hit against New Mexico on Tuesday show up in the conference rankings.
