Arizona Head Coach Sean Miller
"I have to give Duquesne a lot of credit. They gave us an unbelievable effort, and it really helped us from a teaching standpoint. It was a hard fought game. Down two at half is difficult, but we played to win. Jordin Mayes really stepped up tonight, and Jesse is really one of our most consistent players at this point with the double-double he had."
"It's not about where you start, but where you finish, and individually, it will take time for our younger players to get comfortable with the college game, but it will happen. If we can get Alex Jacobson and Kevin Parrom back, that will also be a big help and bodes well for us down the stretch."
"Angelo Chol really has been putting the fuel to the fire in these first two games, and for him, it's all going to get better as the season progresses."
"If you were to judge Jesse Perry last November, it would be a lot to hope that he would be a significant contributor in the Pac-10 Conference. He worked hard, and evolved, and ended up on the NCAA Tournament All-Tournament team. He is probably our most consistent player, especially since Solomon Hill did not have as good a game last night. Our final score probably would have been significantly different if we were able to limit his turnovers, and it is our job as coaches to help him get better."
Arizona Player Quotes
Sophomore Jordin Mayes
On best game of his career:
"I thought it was one of my best games, in my opinion. I need to thank my teammates, they found me and I just hit big shots."
On confidence coming into the game:
"I had a lot of confidence; Coach (Miller) stays in my ear, hyping me up and telling me to stay confident. I'm going to play my game the way wants me to play and help the team the best way possible."
On small lineup:
"It worked for us; we have three guys who can push the ball. Jesse (Perry) really battled down there, getting offensive rebounds and second-chance shots. That was a big advantage for us."
Junior Solomon Hill
On unorthodox lineup:
"It was just certain lineups that we struggled with, Jesse (Perry) at the 5, guys were not used to that. We need to get some continuity with Jesse at that spot, we'll work on it in practice."
"We were beating ourselves, they run a pressure defense and force turnovers, that's how they play. Most of our turnovers came at the very end. We just need to take care of the ball and we'll win games."
On finding his spots in the offense:
"It'll come to me, I'm not rushing it. I was able to find Jordin (Mayes) tonight, he had a career game and I was just able to find him a couple times. I was happy with my rebounds and my passes. It'll come to me, I can't get down. I need to cut back on turnovers, those are killing me."
