ATHENS, Ga. ?- Arizona senior Dianne Hollands defeated Ashlee Davis of Wake Forest, 6-1, 6-2, in the opening round of the NCAA Singles Championship on Monday at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga.

A tribute to her consistency in her four years as a Wildcat, Hollands’ victory propelled her to the 100-victory plateau in singles.

Hollands, ranked No. 31, defeated No. 63 Davis for her first career singles win in NCAA Tournament play.  Hollands is rewarded with the convincing two-set victory with a matchup against second-seeded Julie Coin of Clemson.  Coin boasts a 33-4 singles record, with her only losses on the year came to No. 8 Suzi Babos of California, No. 4 Audra Cohen of Northwestern, and two losses to No. 1 Megan Bradley of Miami (Florida).

In addition to her match against Coin on Tuesday, Hollands will team up with fellow senior Maja Mlakar in the NCAA Doubles Championship.  The 32-pair field will begin play tomorrow, as No. 15 Hollands and Mlakar will face No. 21 Candice Fuchs and Megan Moulton-Levy of William and Mary.

Hollands and Mlakar earned All-American honors in 2004, but were bounced out of the NCAA Doubles Championship in the first round.  This year, they have amassed a 27-9 record, and have won nine of their last 10 matches.
