Seniors Cursty Jackson (Los Angeles) and Courtney Karst (Centennial, Colo.) led the Arizona Volleyball team (9-2, 1-1) past Oregon State (9-3, 1-1) in Corvallis, Ore. on Saturday, defeating the Beavers 3-1 (23-25, 25-20, 25-21, 25-17).

Jackson led all players with 21 kills out of 33 attempts for a .576 hitting percentage and added four blocks for the Wildcats. Karst recorded a team-high six blocks, including the team’s only solo block, and contributed 14 kills.

Arizona struggled in set one and tied it at 23, but couldn’t close it out and fell, 23-25. In the second set, the team was down 13-17, but came roaring back to take set two, 25-20 and finished the match in the following sets, 25-21 and 25-17.

“This was a really gutsy win for us,” Arizona head coach David Rubio said. “With the circumstances are they were, playing poorly the night before and the way it started—we really fought our way back tonight.”

Freshmen also played a big role in Arizona’s victory as Rachel Rhoades (San Diego, Calif.) had six blocks, Madi Kingdon (Phoenix, Ariz.) added 20 kills and Chloe Mathis (La Jolla, Calif.) had 57 assists.

“It was a really nice effort from everyone,” Rubio said. “It was a terrific way to rebound.”

The Wildcats will return to McKale Center to continue conference play versus No. 4 Washington at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 23. They will also host Washington State on Sunday, Sept. 25 at 1 p.m.
