TUCSON - The first day of play wrapped up for the Wildcats at the 2011 Lakewood Ranch Invitational. Sophomores Gicomo Miccini and Andre Vidaller are representing the Cats on the clay courts of the Athletic Center of Lakewood Ranch in Sarasota, Fla.
`It was nice to see the guys come away with some wins today, considering the level of competition," said head coach Tad Berkowitz.
In singles action, Miccini advanced to the quarterfinals by defeating opponents from Temple and Pepperdine. The Recanati, Italy native will play Julian Dehn from Minnesota at noon on Saturday. Vidaller defeated Stuart Kenyan from Alabama but fell to Justin Shane from Alabama in the round-of-16.
In doubles play, Miccini and Vidaller beat an Oklahoma State duo in the round-of-16 and andvanced to the quarterfinals to take on Minnesota. The match against Minnesota was left unfinished.
Play will resume on Saturday and continue through Sunday in Sarasota, Fla.
