Arizona Head Coach Sean Miller:
"We'll take it from here, but there is definitely a lot of room for improvement. Of the good things, Jesse Perry and Kyle Fogg, our seniors, played with the experience they have, and that's what we need. As some of the younger players are learning their role in college basketball, we are going to rely on Jesse and Kyle, and they really carried us tonight. I also have to give Angelo Chol a lot of credit. It's difficult for a player, especially a freshman, to switch positions on such a short notice, but I think he is growing more comfortable in his new role. Angelo showed a lot of great effort, especially in the second half."
"We are going to continue to develop throughout the entire season. It's not about how you start, but where you end up at the end of the season. We were good at defense tonight, but it was disappointing to see us give up nearly nineteen points in the last four minutes. We didn't finish tonight, and that is something we need to learn to do. These early games give us the opportunity to learn. We're not a very big team right now, but we will be when Kevin Parrom and Alex Jacobson become available."
"Our team is a work in progress, but so is every team save for 10 or 12 teams who have all their parts returning. After we play five, seven, ten games, we'll have a better feel. Nick Johnson, as a freshman, played very well tonight with fourteen points and six assists. He played with confidence, and will continue to improve as the season progresses."
Arizona Player Quotes
Senior guard Kyle Fogg
On tonight's game
"I think we played a great game until the last four minutes tonight. This falls on the leaders of the team and we have to work on this. Sometimes the guys will walk from place to place on the court and coach really gets angry about that, we will play better on Wednesday."
"The coach really took it out on us when we weren't performing the way that we should have been. A lot of it is on me, I kept running from corner to corner tonight."
On the progress of the team after the first two exhibition games
"I don't think we're a No.16 level team yet, but we will reach our ranking, we have shown improvement, and we can only get better from there."
"In the first exhibition game we were only seven or eight practices in, with this team everyone wants to win, and that's something you have to have to be a good team."
On Jesse Perry's Performance
"Jesse's performance this year has been a lot better. He has always been good, he is a lot more comfortable with the team especially because last year coming in as a junior transfer, he had to get use to the transition."
Sophomore guard Jordin Mayes
On his performance tonight
"I have to give credit to my teammates. Being a year in the program, I felt a lot more comfortable with the team. On the offensive end I hit open shots tonight and everyone is stepping up their game."
