TUCSON, Ariz. ?- UNLV capitalized on a four-run eighth inning to out-slug Arizona 16-12, and earn a series clinching win over the Wildcats at Kindall Field on Sunday. The Rebels finished the contest with 19 hits, including four doubles and two home runs, to improve to 21-28 on the year. Arizona dropped to 21-25 overall with its fourth loss in its last five games.

Holding a tenuous 11-10 lead after seven, UNLV extended its advantage with four runs on five hits in the eighth. The Rebels sent nine hitters to the plate in the frame and got run-scoring singles from Chad Miller and Ryan Bird, and a two-run double by Albert Zerega to push its lead to 15-10.

Arizona countered with a run on Brad Glenn’s team-leading eighth homer of the season, a solo shot to left, in the bottom of the frame, but UNLV struck back on Matt Lang’s leadoff home run off the batter’s eye in center in the ninth for a 16-11 lead.

The Wildcats pulled within four on a two-out Jason Donald single in the bottom of the ninth, but couldn’t draw any closer to drop the rubber game of the weekend series.

Offensively, all nine Rebel starters finished with at least one hit in the game. Lang led all players, finishing a perfect 5 for 5 with a RBI on his solo homer and three runs scored. Miller chipped in with three hits and three RBI on the day, and Bird, Braden Walker, Zerega and Mike Cruz all finished with two hits in the win.

UNLV jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first, and re-took the lead at 9-6 with five runs in the third after Arizona had responded with five runs in the first and one in the second.

The Wildcats battled back with single runs in the third and fourth and pulled ahead at 10-9 in the fifth with a pair of runs on a Colt Sedbrook RBI single and a passed ball by Zergea.

Miller then hit a two-run homer off the reliever Mike Colla in the sixth to give UNLV its third and final lead of the day at 11-10.

Rebel reliever Ryan Tabor (3-4), who limited Arizona to just one earned run on four hits over 3 2/3 innings, picked up the win on the mound, and reliever Koji Pupo worked out of a two-on, no-out jam in the ninth to pick up his second save of the year.

UA’s Colla (0-1) was charged with the loss after giving up Miller’s homer in the sixth.

Sedbrook, Donald, Glenn and Matt Denker all finished with three hits for Arizona in the loss. Donald extended his hitting streak to 17-straight games with a bloop double in the first.

Arizona, which will take Monday-Wednesday off to concentrate on final exams, will return to practice on Thursday in preparation for a Saturday-Monday Pac-10 series against Washington State at Kindall Field.
