Arizona Women?s Golf Tied in Second at UNLV Invitational

HENDERSON, Nev. ?- The Arizona women's golf team stands tied in second with tournament host UNLV after 18-holes on Monday in Henderson, Nev.


The Wildcats shot a 24-over-par 312 to trail tournament leader Southern California by 6 strokes after the Women of Troy shot an 18-under-par 306. Michigan (316) and Pepperdine (317) are in fourth and fifth, respectively.


Individually, junior Cassandra Kirkland leads the Wildcats in third place, after shooting a 3-over-par 78 in the first round. Additionally, junior Lani Elston joins Kirkland in the top-five, by shooting 76 (+4) to tie for fourth with five other golfers.


Senior Miriam Kraschinski shot an 80 (+8) in today’s first round. Junior Whitney Welch is tied for 31st at 9-over-par 81. Senior Mar Garcia is tied for 38th, after she shot a 10-over-par 82.


Competing as an individual for Arizona, sophomore Rachel Gavin is tied for 53rd at 83 (+11)


The Wildcats will tee off tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. (PST) in round two. The tournament is being contested at Black Mountain Country Club, Par 72 over a 6,009-yard layout.
