WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- Arizona senior third baseman Jenae Leles was named the Pac-10 Player of the Week for Mar. 3-8, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Leles, a native of Fair Oaks, Calif., spearheaded the Wildcats offensive attack over the weekend at Arizona's own Hillenbrand Invitational, batting in a massive 18 RBI and belting six home runs over a six game span. At the plate, the senior went 12-for-20 (.600) recording a massive 1.550 slugging percentage.
On Friday, Leles picked up the bulk of her RBI in UA's double header against Minnesota. Driving in nine batters, Leles hit three home runs in the two game series, including a three-run, a two-run and a solo home-run shot. The third baseman also drove in three runs on a pair of singles in game two. Leles' efforts on Friday helped the Wildcats outscore Minnesota a combined 30-7.
Leles now has nine home runs total on the season and has upped her batting average to .392, good for second on the team. She is also tied for ninth on the Arizona career home run list, alongside Toni Mascarenas and Callista Balko with 43.
This marks the first Pac-10 Player of the Week honor for Leles and the 123rd all-time for the Wildcats.
Up Next: Arizona will host Simon Fraser for a doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m. This weekend, they will play five games in the Judi Garman Classic in Fullerton, Calif.
