About the Wildcats
The 2007-08 Arizona womenˇ?s swim team won its third straight Pac-10 title and enter the NCAA Championships ranked fourth in the nation ˇ? UA won the Pac-10 title over rival Stanford by a score of 1501 to 1472 on Feb. 27-March 1 in Long Beach, Calif. ˇ? At the Pac-10 Championships, the Wildcats won six events, including the 200 medley relay (Hailey DeGolia, Annie Chandler, Lara Jackson and Anna Turner), which the broke a Pac-10 and championship meet record with a time of 1:36.57, the 50 free (Jackson), the 200 free relay (Emma Darlington, Jackson, Taylor Baughman and Lacey Nymeyer), the 400 medley relay (Degolia, Chandler, Ana Agy, Nymeyer), the 100 free (Nymeyer) and the platform diving event (Carly Smith) ˇ? Arizona will have 18 swimmers competing at the NCAAs, the most allowed ˇ?
The Wildcats at the NCAAs
The Wildcats will be competing in their 27th consecutive NCAA championship meet dating back to 1982 ˇ? Arizona has finished runner-up three times (2007, 2000 and 1998) and has placed in the top 10 of the meet in each of the last 17 straight years ˇ? The Wildcats also competed in seven AIAW championships, including a four-year run up to the beginning of the NCAAs (1978-81)
Championship Depth on the Squad
The Wildcats boast 10 2006-07 All-Americans among the 18 swimmers that will be competing at this yearˇ?s NCAA event ˇ? The Cats return last yearˇ?s 200 free individual champion Lacey Nymeyer, as well as all of the components of last seasonˇ?s national champion 200 free relay team and 200 medley relay teams ˇ? Both relay teams set meet, NCAA, US Open and American records at the NCAA meet in Minneapolis. Minn.
Head Coach Frank Busch
Wrapping up his 19th season as the head man at Arizona, Frank Busch brings one of his most talented womenˇ?s team to the NCAAs. A seven-time Pac-10 Womenˇ?s Coach of the Year, including this season, Busch has also recognized as the NCAA Womenˇ?s Coach of the Year in 2004 and the Menˇ?s COY in 2006, 2005, and 1993 ˇ? In each of the last 16 seasons Busch has had at least one individual national champion on either the menˇ?s or womenˇ?s side and 27 individual titles overall ˇ? The women enter this yearˇ?s meet with a four-year run with individual champs, including two from last season, one in 2006, two in 2005 and one in 2004 ˇ? Overall UAˇ?s women have racked up 317 individual All-America honors, 76 All-America relay honors, 46 Pac-10 titles and 27 NCAA titles under Busch
