Arizona swimmer Clark Burckle became the third Ford/Zona athlete to qualify for the 2012 Olympic Games Friday night at the Olympic trials in Omaha, Neb.

Burckle posted a second-place finish in the 200 breast with a time of 2:09.97, beating out 130 other competitors for a chance to represent Team U.S.A. in London next month.

“I can’t even put it in to words right now,” Burckle said of the win. “It’s the epitome of what a swimmer dreams about. Once every four years, we have the limelight and I’m just speechless. It’s been such hard work and I’m so honored to be part of the team.”

Matt Grevers had another impressive showing, posting a third-place finish in the 100 free to qualify him for an Olympic relay team.

Amanda Beard finished fifth in the 200 breast semifinals with her time of 2:25.90 to advance to Saturday night’s finals.

In other semifinal action, Margo Geer finished 12th in the 100 free, Cory Chitwood posted a 10th place finish and Ellis Miller a 13th place finish in the 200 back and Austen Thompson and Woody Joye finished 10th and 16th in the 200 IM, respectively.

In addition, incoming Arizona freshman Emma Schoettmer recorded a 10th-place finish in the 200 breast.

“We had another amazing night,” Arizona head coach Eric Hansen said. “Clark had an outstanding performance, Grevers had a nice addition and we are looking forward to watching Amanda in the finals tomorrow night.”

The trials will continue Saturday with the men’s 50 free, women’s 800 free, men’s 100 fly and women’s 200 back in preliminary rounds in the morning. The evening session will feature the men’s 50 free, women’s 200 back and men’s 100 fly semifinals and women’s 200 breast, men’s 200 back, men’s 200 IM and women’s 100 free finals.
