EUGENE, Ore. - The University of Arizona men's golf team shot a two-over-par 290 Monday and stands in second place after the opening round of the Oregon Duck Invitational.
Led by Ricky Barnes, Arizona carded the second-lowest total of the day and stands five shots behind tournament leader and host Oregon, who was the only team in the 16-team field to come in under par at 285 (-3). Washington State is in third place at 292 (+4) and is one stroke ahead of four teams tied for fourth place at 293 (+5).
Barnes posted a four-under 68 and currently stands in a tie for third place. It was Barnes' second-lowest score this spring and put him two shots out of the overall lead. San Jose State's Bryant Reyes and Northwestern's Bjorn Widerstedt both tallied first-round 66s to share the lead in the 94-man field.
No other UA golfer posted a score better than par. Junior Chris Nallen, the only other Wildcat in the top 20, carded an even-par 72 and is tied for 16th place.
