Women’s tennis goes to Nike Cal Invite
Berkeley, Calif. ?- The Arizona women’s tennis team opened play at the CAL Invite Friday Sept. 30.
In the gold singles bracket sophomore Juliette Mavroleon defeated UNC’s Sara Anudsen 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 in the round of 32 to open the tournament. In the round of 16, Mavroleon fell to Stephanie Kusano of Cal 6-4, 6-0. Kusano was seeded number sixth in the tournament, and went on to defeat ASU’s Sabr.Capannolo 6-2, 6-2 who was seeded number four in the tournament. Mavroleon then played in the gold singles consolation round and defeated Jacqui Hasket of Fresno State 6-3,7-5.
Freshman Tina Razloznik who also was placed in the gold singles bracket lost in her first round of 32 against Duke’s Tara Iyer 6-3, 6-2. She went on to play in round one of the consolation round and fell to Anastasia Surkova 6-4, 6-2. In round two of the consolation round Razloznik defeated New Mexico’s Maria Sotirchos 3-6, 6-, 7-5.
In the blue singles bracket sophomore Camelia Todorova was defeated by New Mexico’s Mackenzie White 6-1, 6-3. Todorova won in round one of the consolation round against BYU’s Briana Williamson 6-1, 6-1. After receiving a second round bye, she went on to defeat South Carolina’s Erika Barnes in the quarter finals. Today she played in the semifinals and won against Texas Christian’s Lindsay McBride 7-5, 6-3. Todorova fell to Arizona States Laila Abdala 6-2 in the finals.
In the gold doubles bracket Razloznik and Todorova fell to New Mexico’s Lucy Scott and Ola Abou-Zekry 8-2 in a round of 16.
Arizona women’s tennis will play next weekend at the Riviera All American Championships in Los Angles, California and at the NAU Invitational in Sedona, Arizona.
