TUCSON, Ariz. - University of Arizona men’s golfer Travis Esway was named to the Division I PING All-America team, it was announced Thursday by the Golf Coaches Association of America.

Esway, a sophomore from Granite Bay Calif., was one of 32 student-athletes to receive honorable mention recognition.  He posted a 73.37 stroke average in 38 rounds played and 13 of those 38 rounds were at par or better.  Esway carded six rounds in the 60s, including a low of 68 in the second round of the 2006 NCAA Championships.  He tied for 50th place at the NCAA Championships with a seven-over 295 total.

It is the first time that Esway has garnered All-American accolades, and the second time that he has earned postseason honors.  He was an honorable mention all-Pac-10 Conference selection a year ago.

Arizona has now had at least one All-American in each of the last 15 seasons.  Esway is the 50th player in school history to earn All-America honors.

Arizona just closed the 2005-06 season with a 13th-place finish at the NCAA Championships.  It was the Wildcats’ 20th consecutive appearance at the NCAA Championships, the second-longest active streak in the nation.
