TUCSON, Ariz. ?- The Pac-10 Champion Arizona softball team has announced its schedule for the 2006 season.  In addition to their Pac-10 schedule, the Wildcats will host a pair of tournaments, travel to three tournaments, and welcome two non-conference opponents for three-game tilts.

Arizona opens up season in Tempe at the Kajikawa Classic, Feb. 10-12.  The Kajikawa, hosted by Arizona State, will feature among others Women’s College World Series participant Texas and 2005 Player of the Year Cat Osterman.

The following weekend, UA will host the Worth Wildcat Tournament at Rita Hillenbrand Memorial Stadium.  Missouri, North Carolina State, Pacific, Tennessee Tech and Texas Tech are scheduled to compete.

For the weekend of Feb. 24-26, the Wildcats will head west to the Palm Springs Tournament, before returning to host the Hillenbrand Invitational from March 3-5.  Sam Houston, Long Beach State, South Florida and Wichita State are slated as participants.

Next, Super Regional participant Baylor visits the Old Pueblo for a three-game series in Tucson, March 10-12.

While the rest of the Arizona student body enjoys spring break, the softball team will compete in the Kia Klassic in Fullerton, Calif.  Last year, the Kia featured a highly competitive field, including WCWS participants Texas, Michigan and DePaul.  Other 2005 Kia participants included Washington, Fresno State, Florida State and Nebraska.

UA will return home to wrap up its non-conference schedule with a three-game series against Louisiana Lafayette, March 24-26.

On March 31, UA will open up Pac-10 play in Corvalis, Ore., against co-Pac-10 Champion Oregon State.  Arizona has a favorable schedule to wrap up its regular season, with six consecutive home games, the last of which is on May 13 also against Oregon State.
