TUCSON--Long Beach State sent 15 batters to the plate in the third inning, collecting eight hits and 12 runs, to blow past Hawaii, 17-2, in Saturday afternoon action of Arizona's Hillenbrand Invitational softball tournament.

The 49ers had four players score twice in the inning, plus a two-run homer by Cassie McCarty and a grand slam by Nicole Spencer. Four Hawaii errors made nine of the runs unearned.

Long Beach State started fast, collecting five runs on six hits in the bottom of the first. Long Beach State (16-7) had 16 hits in the game, to four by the Rainbow Wahine (10-8). Hawaii scored its runs in the top of the fourth on a two-run home run by Stacey Porter.
