 Four of the 16 teams were ranked nationally in final fall poll


TUCSON, Ariz. - The University of Arizona men’s golf team will open its 2006 spring season by hosting the PING-Arizona Intercollegiate, Jan. 30-31, at Arizona National Golf Club.  Four of the 16 teams in the field were nationally ranked at the conclusion of the fall.


One of the finest college golf events in the nation, the 2006 PING-Arizona Intercollegiate is a 54-hole event, which will be contested at Arizona National, a par 71, 6,900-yard layout.  Thirty-six holes will be played on Monday, Jan. 30 with continuous play scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. MST.  The final 18 holes will start at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 31.


Four of the teams in the field are currently ranked in the (Nov. 4) GCAA/Bridgestone Top-25 Coaches Poll.  The following teams are scheduled to compete: Arizona State, Brigham Young, California, UC-Irvine, Denver, New Mexico, New Mexico State, Oregon, Oregon State, Pepperdine, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas-El Paso, Tulsa, and host Arizona (two squads).


The Wildcats posted one top-five finish in five fall events.
