Arizona's Kevin Guyette Named Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week

            WALNUT CREEK, Calif. ?- Arizona junior Kevin Guyette has been named the Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week, commissioner Tom Hansen announced today. Guyette’s recognition marks the fourth straight week a Wildcat has been named the conference’s player or pitcher of the week and the fifth time overall this season.

 

            Guyette, a Phoenix, Ariz., native, garnered the conference weekly honor after tossing a complete-game one-hitter in an 11-0 Arizona victory at UCLA last Saturday. The right-hander struck out 11 Bruin hitters and needed only 100 pitches to earn his first career complete game win. A second-inning single by UCLA’s Tommy Lansdon was the only hit given up by Guyette on the night. He retired the final 11 batters he faced in order and did not allow a runner past first base after the second inning.

 

            Trevor Crowe (Feb. 22), Mark Melancon (March 15), John Meloan (March 22) and Jordan Brown (March 29) are the four other Wildcats to be recognized by the Pac-10 this season.

 

            Stanford's Jed Lowrie was named this week’s top player in the conference.
