TUCSON, Ariz. ?- A pair of three-run home runs by Callista Balko and Chelsie Mesa powered No. 3 Arizona to a 6-1 victory over No. 8 Stanford on Sunday.

?

Arizona’s fifth consecutive Pac-10 victory brings its record to 40-9 overall and 11-6 in Conference play, while the loss drops Stanford to 35-15 and 7-11.

?

Taryne Mowatt (19-4) won her fifth consecutive decision, and limited the Stanford hitters to one run on five hits in her 18th complete game of the year.? The sophomore from Corona, Calif., struck out six Cardinal hitters in seven innings of work.

?

The Wildcats jumped on the Cardinal right out of the gate for three runs in the first inning on Callista Balko’s 10th blast of the year.? After Autumn Champion and Kristie Fox drew a pair of one-out, 3-2 walks, Balko knocked Stanford ace Missy Penna out of the game just four batters in.

?

With new pitcher Laura Severson in the circle, Jenae Leles and Chelsie Mesa walked and singled, respectively, but UA would settle with the three runs from Balko’s blast.

?

Stanford got on the board in the fourth inning on Michelle Smith’s fourth home run of the year, a solo shot to left.

?

Arizona’s plate discipline paid off again in the fifth inning, as UA got a pair of runners on base via walks.? With pinch runners Danielle Rodriguez and Kelly Nelson on, Chelsie Mesa crushed her seventh home run of the year, and first of Pac-10 play, to bring Arizona’s lead to 6-1.

?
