The No. 2 softball team opened the second day of the USF-Louisville Slugger with a 6-0 victory over Auburn and a 3-1 win over South Florida.
Freshman pitcher Alicia Hollowell pitched six innings for the Cats against Auburn. Hollowell struck out eight batters, walked one batter and allowed one hit. The only home run in the game came from junior Mackenzie Vandergeest. Vandergeest ended the game 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Arizona faced South Florida in the second game of the day. The Bulls jumped out to an early lead, scoring one run in the first inning. USF center fielder Stephanie Roberts scored off a RBI single to right field by catcher Courtney Lewellen.
Arizona got on the board in the fourth inning. Both freshman Autumn Champion and sophomore Crystal Farley scored off a single by senior Lovie Jung. Junior Wendy Allen scored in the seventh inning when Lisha Ribellia singled to right field.
Allen pitched six innings for the Cats. Allen struck out six batters, walked one and gave up four hits.
The Cats complete the USF-Louisville Tournament tomorrow when they face Northwestern at 11 a.m.
