The Wildcats and the Aggies will meet for 25th time on Monday. Arizona holds a 13-11 edge over the Aggies. Last season, Arizona beat NMSU, 71-59, in McKale Center. UA holds a 3-9 record when playing in Las Cruces. Arizona's last win at NMSU was a 100-97 victory on Dec. 30, 1991.
Arizona is 3-0 to start the season, including 2-0 on the road. Junior guard Davellyn Whyte leads the Wildcats with 23.3 points per game, closely followed by sophomore guard Candice Warthen's 21.7 per game. Sophomore forward Erica Barnes leads at the glass with 10.3 boards per game and senior guard Shanita Arnold hands out 5.3 assists per game.
New Mexico State is 1-2 on the season with first-year head coach Mark Trakh at the helm of Aggie program. Tabytha Wampler paces the Aggies with 14.7 points and 14.3 rebounds per contest. NMSU is out-rebounding its opponents by 7.3 boards per game.
In a game with three ties and six lead changes, the Wildcats came away with a victory in a hard-fought battle over Wichita State, 74-60. The Wildcats capitalized on the Shockers' 16 turnovers with 14 points. Sophomore Candice Warthen also continued her hot shooting, scoring 16 points on two treys and seven field goals. She also had four rebounds, two assists and two steals. Senior guard Shanita Arnold led Arizona in dishes with six and sophomore forward Erica Barnes paced at the glass with nine rebounds.
