TUCSON, Ariz. - The No. 36 Arizona women's tennis team (4-9) took on the No. 21 Tulane Green Wave (15-1) in their second dual match in less than 24 hours. The Green Wave won two out of three doubles matches and three of six singles matches for the overall win.
In doubles action, junior Kelly Perry and freshman Jessie Rochefort fell, 8-5, to Nancy Kockott and Dorottya Magas in the second position. On court 3 senior Debbie Larocque and sophomore Iza Ferreira lost to Tulane's team of Jenny Kuhn and Maria Ivanov, 8-5. The sole win in doubles for the Wildcats came on court 1 where the No. 7 ranked doubles team of juniors Maja Mlakar and Dianne Hollands were behind 4-1, and came back to defeat Tulane's team of Julie Smekodub and Darya Ivanov, 8-6. With two victories, Tulane entered singles competition with the doubles point and the lead.
Playing in the first position, Mlakar competed against Maria Ivanov of Tulane. Mlakar easily defeated Ivanov, 6-2, 6-3. On court 2, Hollands came from behind to beat Tulane's Jenny Kuhn in three sets, 1-6, 6-1, 6-1. Playing in the third position, Larocque lost to Smekodub in two sets, 6-1, 6-0. Junior Kelly Perry played on court 4 and quickly defeated Tulane's Daria Ivanov, 6-2, 6-2. Both freshman Jessie Rochefort and sophomore Iza Ferreira lost their matches in two sets.
The Wildcats will next see action at home April 2 at 1:30 p.m. when they take on No. 49 Washington State at the Lanelle Robson Tennis Center.
