TUCSON, Ariz. -
Wildcat fans, it’s been a little while since my last post and there is a lot to catch up on. Let me start with …WE BEAT FULLERTON!!!! YAYYY! We were able to take down some tough competition on our way to winning the Wildcat Classic. It was great to be on our home court in front of our fans for the weekend.
We really enjoyed our trip to Indiana. We finished our tournament with wins against Illinois-Chicago, Southeast Missouri State, and Evansville as we won the Evansville Invitational. Our coaches not only enjoyed our success on the court over the weekend, but also enjoyed some off-the-court treats. During the Arizona-Oklahoma State football game, we were eating some dinner and I decided I wanted some dessert. Generally, we are not supposed to order dessert, but I thought I would try my luck since my birthday was the next day. I ordered apple crisp and sat there waiting for it. It was taking forever! After everyone was all done eating, the coaches were ready to leave. I kept putting them off, saying that I was not done eating yet. Then, Melissa (assistant coach) says, "I don’t know why you are waiting, you’re not getting that apple crisp." Everyone erupted in laughter! Apparently the waitress brought it to the coaches’ table and the coaches ate my apple crisp!
Anyway, back to volleyball...
Some new players got a lot of playing time in Evansville. I was really impressed with the freshmen, especially Taylor Arizobal. She went in very confident, and did very well. It’s always exciting seeing what we are doing in practice translate over to a game.
Pac-12 volleyball action is upon us! Last weekend marked the first week in conference. We went up to Oregon to go duck hunting, and faced our toughest competition of the year thus far in Oregon and Oregon State. Against Oregon last year we went to 5 sets, and came out with a big win. While we were hoping for a repeat performance from last year, we unfortunately lost to Oregon in 3 sets. I was, and still am, very disappointed. In my eyes, we beat ourselves and had way too many errors.
The next night when we played Oregon State we looked like a new team. We changed the lineup, and had Court on the outside and Taylor as an opposite. Everything flowed right, and we did really well! We looked nothing like the team that lost the previous night. Personally, I had a career high 21 kills, and hit .565.
After the Oregon State game I feel very confident with our team and where we stand. Everyone is so talented! This weekend, I am excited to take on the University of Washington, who is ranked #4 in the nation. We are so focused on getting better, and I know that we can beat them. It’s just a matter of which team shows up on Friday.
Well Wildcat fans, I hope to see you out this weekend as we face Washington and Washington State in McKale Center, back in front of our home fans!
Until next week. See you later :)
