Arizona Women's Tennis Falls to Arizona State

TUCSON, Ariz. (Feb. 24, 2001) -- The 23rd-ranked Arizona woman's tennis team fell to Arizona State, 3-4, Saturday, February 24, at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center.

The Wildcats earned their three match points on the singles side, that tied Sun Devils' three singles points. Junior Sophie Regnier fought for three sets to beat Arizona State's Megan Yeats, 5-7, 6-3, 7-5. Freshman Debbie Larocque defeated Karin Palme of ASU, 6-4, 6-2, for her 19th win of the season. Junior Laresa Marino topped Faye DeVera 6-2, 7-5. The 47th-ranked Arizona Wildcat, senior Michelle Gough, lost a close match to Adria Engel, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. Freshman Perrine Pernin snapped her three match winning streak with a loss to Mhairi Brown of ASU, 6-1, 6-0.

Arizona lost two of the three doubles matches, losing the doubles point. The Wildcats' victory on the doubles side came from the team of Larocque and Marino defeating the 38th ranked team of Adria Engel and Karin Palme, 8-6. Celena McCoury and Mhairi Brown of Arizona State topped the Wildcat team Gough and Regnier, 4-8.

Arizona will return to action Tuesday, Feb. 27, when it plays host to Tulane at 1 p.m. MST.
