TUCSON - Western Michigan trailed early but used a couple of multiple-run innings to take a 6-4 victory over New Mexico in the opening game of Arizona's Worth Wildcat Invitational softball tournament Friday morning.
UNM took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first with four hits including RBI singles by Iraina Ogas, Ashley Van Boxmeer and Ashley Shartzer, but Western Michigan cut into the lead in its half of the inning with a two-run triple by Marie McCarthy.
The Broncos took the lead with a four-run third, keyed by a two-run single
by Erin Mallcoh and a Lobo error that allowed one unearned run. UNM
answered with an unearned run in the fourth to trim the lead to 6-4 on an
RBI single by Kim Korsak.
