HONOLULU, Hawaii - Arizona widened its lead at the John Burns Invitational golf tournament Thursday by shooting a second-round of 283 (-5). The Wildcats (280-283-563) now stand at 13-under-par for the tournament, three strokes ahead of second-place teams San Diego State (284-282-566) and Southern Methodist (381-285-566).

Three Wildcats posted scores of par or better in Thursday's second round to help Arizona extend its lead. Individually, junior Chris Nallen leads the way as he stands tied for third place. Nallen, from Blairstown, N.J., shot a 4-under-par 68 Thursday to bring his 36-hole score to 140 (-4). He sits three shots off the pace set by individual leader Casey Fowles (69-68-137, -7) of Utah.

Senior Ricky Barnes is tied for 16th place after posting a second round of even par. Barnes, the 2002 United States Amateur Champion, is at 2-under-par 142 with one round remaining. Joining Barnes in a tie for 16th place is fellow senior Brian Woolf. From Granada Hills, Calif., Woolf carded a second-round 73 to match Barnes' 2-under 142. Woolf is competing as an individual, thus his score does not count toward Arizona's total team score.

Also in the top 25 for the Wildcats is senior transfer Andrew Medley, who shares 23rd place with seven other golfers. Medley posted a second round of 73 to bring his two-day total to 1-under-par 143. Senior Reid Hatley is tied for 31st place after shooting 70 (-2) Thursday. Hatley is at even-par 144 for the tournament. Closing out Arizona's lineup is freshman Blaine Peffley, who stands in a tie for 38th place. The freshman from Lebanon, Pa., shot 77 (+5) Thursday to bring his 36-hole score to 1-over-par 145.

The tournament concludes Friday with a 7:30 a.m. HST shotgun start. Arizona seeks its second consecutive title of the spring season in as many tournaments.
