Arizona Head Coach Sean Miller
"This was certainly an interesting game. In the first eight minutes, Idaho State had some good execution, and they had that one big that we didn't really have an answer for. Going into the second media timeout, I think we had the game in favor of about two points."
"I think our defense has to do a lot with the final score today. Last game, Idaho State's Gilchrest had thirty-nine points, and the team scored about 80 on Colorado. Defense for us tonight was big. We got a lot of energy from the guys coming off the bench, and it's good to see that our starting point on defense this season is a lot higher than it was last season. We play our best offense when our defense is together. We were able to work against the zone, get the feel for it. We shared the ball well, and worked in the extra pass when we needed to."
"Alex (Jacobson) has been playing well in practice and in the game. He knows what he can do and doesn't try to be something he isn't. He's got some great size, has a nice shot, and we want him to come into the game and do what he does best. Kyryl (Natyazhko) wasn't available for the game against Augustana, but it was nice to see him get some time on the court in front of the crowd today. We want to be able to use both of them in the game more to give Derrick (Williams) more time at the 4."
"Momo (Jones) had four assists and one turnover tonight. It's easy for all eyes to go to the guard at Arizona because the fans put so much importance on the position, and Momo wants to get better and he works hard to make the progress that he has. Putting Momo and Jordin (Maes) together gives us something of a one-two punch. Maes shot very well tonight, and he's going to be very promising for us."
"Having everyone on the roster play was very nice. Once you get into a season as long as ours is, it's nice to start off with a home-opener win like this where everyone has a chance to play well and play a lot."
"Brendon (Lavender) has been playing very well in practice, and I really think that there gets to be a point where how you practice is how you play. I didn't play him as much tonight, because I didn't want him to get hurt down the stretch, but I'm seeing that he is a lot more confident in himself and his abilities, and it's going to give us a big boost off the bench. You get a better perspective seeing him play in practice daily, and he has been getting better and better. We are going to need his confidence as a player coming off the bench who knows how our offense runs."
Arizona Player Quotes
On the win:
"I thought we played really hard, we went hard on the boards. Just great effort and that's what coach was looking for. I think it's a little bit of it being opening night for us. We just wanted to come out and show them what we can do."
On the alley-oop lob:
"I called for the lob and Mo threw it. Actually, I started jumping before he threw it, so I was already coming down. I didn't see it go in, but then the crowd started cheering."
On defending No. 33 Deividas Busma
"Sometimes we were trapping the post. We need to get some hands on the entry passes. Once it's in there we need to make him pull it back out, but he was knocking down turn around jumpers, he did a nice job tonight."
On Arizona's point guards:
"I think that opens up the court for us. It's good for Mo, Jordin, and Kyle to get off the ball on the wing and get them some open looks. If I take the ball down the floor it takes pressure off those guys and it will really open up the floor for us."
"Opportunity presented itself. Coach told us to hit the boards hard. I didn't want to be caught standing when the ball goes up, so I just hit the boards hard."
On shooting 4-of-5 from three-point range:
"I've been recently shooting a lot and it worked out for the best tonight. I've always been confident, but it's all about my teammates finding me."
