Liaw earns top-10 finish of the season with a tie for second place
TUCSON, Ariz. ?- The University of Arizona men’s golf team shot a one-over-par total of 289 Tuesday to finish in sixth place after two rounds of the CordeValle Collegiate in San Martin, Calif.
Arizona’s final-round 289 (+1) gave the team a nine-over 873 total (+6) placed the team sixth. The Wildcats finished 24 strokes behind tournament-winner UCLA, who posted an 15-under 849. Northwestern (855), Arkansas (859), California (859) and Texas (864) rounded out the top five places in the field of 16.
Leading the way for Arizona was junior Henry Liaw, who tallied a two-under 70 and moved into a tie for second place with a 212 (-4) total. This is Liaw’s lowest tournament total in four events this season and his first top-10 finish of the season. Teammate Josh Esler posted a top-20 finish with a tie for 14th place. Esler carded a final round 72 en route to an even par 216.
The 54-hole CordeValle Collegiate concludes tomorrow at CordeValle Country Club, a par-72, 7,119-yard layout.
