Match Data: ?Arizona looks to continue its winning ways early in the season vs. the Broncos of Santa Clara on Tuesday.

In The Rankings:? ?The Wildcats begin the season ranked No. 42 as a team.? Individually, Danielle Steinberg is currently rated as No. 46 in the country. The next team rankings are scheduled to come out on Jan. 29

?

Head Coach Vicky Maes: ?Vicky Maes enters her seventh year as the head womenˇ?s tennis coach. One of the greatest players in Arizona women's tennis history, Maes has been at the University of Arizona since 1994. She got her start as a student-athlete, then continued on as a coordinator for the model Life Skills Program and has served as the head coach of the womenˇ?s tennis team since October 2001.? As a student-athlete, Maes was the squad's No. 1 singles and doubles player throughout her entire career. She was named the Pac-10 Conference Player of the Year in 1996, as well as being tabbed a four-time first team All-Pac-10 selection. ??A native of Belgium, Maes has brought great success in her first six seasons at the helm of the program. The Wildcats have recorded a solid record against teams that are continuously ranked among the top in the nation. In addition, Maes led the Wildcats to team and/or individual postseason competition each year, won the 2003 Pac-10 Championships for the first time since 1994, and produced several first team All-Americans and All-Pac-10 players.

Returnees: ?The Cats will be led in 2008 by their three returning players, Danielle Steinberg, Katie Orletsky and Natalia Toporowska. Their play will be paramount to the success of the team.? Also the new players on the team will look to them for support during competitive matches.

Welcoming newcomers: ?The Cats will also depend on a lot of new faces as they will have five newcomers joining the team.? One newbie, freshman Jane Huh, will look to the experience she gained during a busy fall schedule as she battles conference foes.

Recapping last year: ?Last year Arizona finished with an overall record of 13-9 and finished ranked No. 42 in the ITA Rankings. In Pac-10 play, the Cats had a 3-10 record.? Individually they were led by sophomore Danielle Steinberg. Steinberg who was ranked as high as No. 34.

Tough schedule: ?In addition to the rigorous Pac-10 schedule, Arizona will face several strong NCAA opponents in Long Beach State, San Diego State, and Sacramento State University.

Led by Stanford, seven (including the Wildcats) Pac-10 teams qualified for post-season play last season. ˇ?We are still improving, and this is certainly a tough schedule, but our players are competitive and ready to put themselves on the line. As long as we continue to grow and develop, we will be a tough challenger every time we step on the court,ˇ± head coach Vicky Maes said.

Last Time Out: ?In the Wildcats first match of the season, they were able to defeat the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks; 4-3. They received strong performances from Danielle Steinberg, Katie Orletsky and Jane Huh who all won their singles matches. In doubles, the teams of Masschelein / Huh and Rietsch / Steinberg were able to knock off the Lumberjacks.

Scouting the Broncos: ?The?Broncos come into Tuesdayˇ?s match vs. the Cats after dropping their opener against No. 64 Cal Poly SLO 0-7.? They are coached by Ben Cabell and led by sophomore Stephanie Galainena and junior Lindsay McBride ?

Early Home Schedule: ?The Cats begin their season with 13 home games at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center. They will look to use this to get out to a fast start and offset the eight road games they have in March and April.?

Fall Action: ?Arizona competed in six fall events and seemed to find a lot of success in doubles action.? Junior Danielle Steinberg had a record of 5-2 while playing in two events to lead the Cats. Sophomore Natalia Toporowska also had a strong fall showing, going 7-4 in singles and 2-2 in doubles play.

Next Up:? ?Arizona will play the San Diego Toreros at home on Friday, Feb. 1st at 1:30 p.m.
