EUGENE, Ore. - Seventh-ranked Arizona shot an opening round team score of 5-over par 293 and is in sixth place after the opening round of the 2010 Pac-10 Women’s Golf Championships, Monday afternoon at Eugene Country Club.
The Wildcats are 11 shots behind tournament leader Arizona State, which finished the first round of play at 6-under par. USC is two shots off the pace in second place while California sits third at 1-under par.
Arizona had three players all shot 1-over par rounds of 73 to lead the team over its opening 18 holes of play. Freshman Sherlyn Popelka was joined by sophomores Isabelle Boineau and Nikki Koller with the team-leading score of the day. Junior Alejandra Llaneza contributed the final scoring round at 2-over par while Margarita Ramos shot 76.
Joanne Lee of California shot the low individual round of the day, carding a 5-under 67 to hold a one-shot lead over Juliana Murcia of Arizona State. Lizette Salas of USC shot 3-under to sit in third place while three other players are three shots off the lead at 2-under par.
Round two begins for the Wildcats with Ramos leading the team off on the first tee at 8:30 a.m. (PT)
