Wildcat seniors claim second team and honorable mention honors

TUCSON, Ariz. ?- Two University of Arizona men’s golfers earned all-conference honors, the Pacific-10 Conference announced Thursday.

Seniors Brian Prouty and Nathan Tyler were recognized in voting done by the league’s head men’s golf coaches.  Prouty was a second team selection, while Tyler received honorable mention accolades.

Prouty, a 6-foot native of Tucson, Ariz., claimed all-conference honors for the first time in his career after posting a team-leading 72.12 stroke average through 25 rounds played.  He has three top-10 finishes to his credit to go with Arizona’s low round (62) and low tournament total (199/-14) this season.  Prouty claimed individual medalist honors, Jan. 30, at the PING-Arizona Intercollegiate in what was UA’s only individual victory to date this season.  He ranks second on the team with 12 rounds at par or better, including six in the 60s.

Tyler, a 6-foot-1 native of Tucson, Ariz., earned honorable mention honors for the first time in his career as well after posting a career-best 72.16 stroke average through 25 rounds played.  Tyler was Arizona’s top finisher at the 2007 Pac-10 Championships, tying for ninth place with a three-under 285 tally.  He has three top-10 and two top-20 finishes to his credit with a low round this year of 67.  Tyler leads the team with 14 rounds at par or better, and 21 of his 22 rounds played with the UA varsity have counted towards the team total (95.5 percent).

Since joining the Pac-10 in 1978-79, Arizona men’s golf has had 91 student-athletes earn all-Pac-10 honors.

The Wildcats will next be in action, May 17-19, at the NCAA West Regional in Tempe, Ariz.
