TUCSON, Ariz. - The University of Arizona men's golf team will host the National Invitational Tournament, March 17-18, at Omni Tucson National Golf Club. It is one of the top major college golf events of the spring season.
The 2010 NIT is a 54-hole event, which will be contested at Omni Tucson National, a par 72, 7,094-yard layout. Thirty-six holes will be played on Wednesday, March 17 with continuous play scheduled to begin at 7:30 a.m. PDT. The final 18 holes will start at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 18.
Four of the teams in the field are ranked in the top 20 places of the (Feb. 24) Golf World/Nike Golf Division I Coaches poll (No. 7 Texas, No. 16 California, No. 17 TCU and No. 19 Texas Tech), while five other teams are included in the top 50 places of the current (March 14) Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index (No. 32 Colorado State, No. 35 SMU, No. 43 Arizona, No. 44 Baylor and No. 47 New Mexico).
The complete field includes Baylor, California, Colorado State, New Mexico, Purdue, SMU, TCU, Texas, Texas-El Paso, Texas Tech, Tulsa, Wyoming and host Arizona (two squads).
Arizona has hosted the event since 2003, claiming the team title in that inaugural year.
