Polkey Named One of the Top Centers in the Nation

University of Arizona women's basketball player Shawntinice Polk has been named a "Top Five Center" by ESPN.com. She is the only sophomore on the list, as the other four top centers are seniors.

The list includes Polk, Tera Bjorklund (Colorado), Nicole Ohlde (Kansas State), Stacy Stephens (Texas) and Christi Thomas (Georgia). Honorable mentions were Janel McCarville (Minnesota), Lindsay Taylor (UC Santa Barbara) and Vanessa Hayden (Florida).

Polk has been showered with a host of preseason accolades already this year. She has been named a preseason All-American by Street & Smith's, Athlon Sports and Women's Basketball News Service. She has also been named to the list of top 30 preseason candidates for the John R. Wooden Women's Award, and she is a preseason candidate for the Wade Trophy. Polkey was also named to the five-member Preseason All-Pac-10 Team.
