TUCSON, Ariz. ?- Freshman pitcher Taryne Mowatt threw a one-hit shutout in five innings to beat New Mexico, 8-0, Saturday at Hillenbrand Stadium. Junior pitcher Alicia Hollowell followed by fanning 15 as Arizona defeated Pima College, 8-0, in six innings.

The Cats put four runs on the board in the first two innings against New Mexico pitcher Ashley Perkins. Caitlin Lowe reached on an error in the first, stole second and came home on a single by junior Courtney Fossatti. Lowe scored again in the second off a Kristie Fox double. Fox had three RBI in the game, including knocking in the final run to end the matchup in five.

Mowatt pitched five innings, giving up one hit to the Lobos’ designated hitter Ashley Allen in the second inning. Mowatt struck out seven of 16 batters and had two assists on the night.

In game two, Hollowell came within two batters of throwing her second consecutive no-hitter this fall. Hollowell added 15 Ks against Pima College to her game one tally of 13, but gave up back-to-back singles in the top of the sixth to nix the perfect game.

Lowe went three-for-four in the leadoff spot and was a homer shy of hitting for the cycle. Lowe led off the game with a slap-bunt single to short. She tripled in the fourth, driving in a run on the play, and doubled in the bottom of the sixth to drive in Arizona’s eighth and final run.

Junior Shelly Schultz went three-for-three batting cleanup for the Cats, with three singles to left, center and right.

Senior right fielder Candace Abrams hit Arizona’s lone homer on the night in the bottom of the fifth, a two-run shot over the right field wall.

Arizona will be in action on Sunday at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m., taking on the Hum-Babe Cats and Central Arizona College at Hillenbrand Stadium.
