Arizona Women's Tennis Resumes Play in Pac-10 Indoor Championships

SEATTLE, Wash. - The Arizona women's tennis team competed in the second day of singles and doubles competition at the Pac-10 Indoor Championships at the Nordstrom Center on the University of Washington campus.

Competing for the Wildcats in the first round of fourth-flight singles, sophomore Kelly Duncan fell to California's Jessica Shu, 6-0, 6-3. Dianne Hollands competed in the quarterfinal round of the top flight. She was defeated by Daria Panova of Oregon, 5-7, 6-3, 6-4. Junior Kelly Perry won her third-flight quarterfinal match against Oregon's Ana Leksinkska, 6-4, 6-3. She later fell in the semifinals to UCLA's Feriel Essigher, 6-2, 6-0.

In doubles action, Perry and freshman Jessie Rochefort teamed up to beat Washington's Monika Kolbovic and Stephanie Svanfeldt, 8-2. They will next take on UCLA's Daniella Bercek and Sarah Gregg. In topflight doubles action, juniors Dianne Hollands and Maja Mlakar received a first round bye. They will take on UCLA's Feriel Essigher and Jackie Carlton in quarterfinal action.

Four Wildcats competed in the consolation rounds. Junior Maja Mlakar won her match in topflight consolation against California's Jodi Scheldt, 6-2, 5-7, 7-6(2). She will next take on Stanford's Lauren Barnikow in semifinal consolation action. Freshman Jessie Rochefort competed in the second-flight consolation bracket where she lost in the quarterfinals to ASU's Jude DeVera, 7-5, 6-2. Senior Debbie Larocque also competed in the second-flight consolation bracket. She lost in quarterfinal action to Oregon's Courtney Nagle, 6-4, 7-6(1). Sophomore Kelly Duncan is set to compete in the quarterfinals against Washington State's Zorana Roganovic in the fourth-flight consolation bracket.

The Wildcats have two doubles teams in main play and two singles players in consolation play remaining. The doubles teams of Rochefort and Perry, and Mlakar and Hollands will compete in semifinal action. Maja Mlakar is set to compete in the semifinals of the topflight consolation, and Kelly Duncan will compete in the quarterfinals of the fourth-flight.

The Wildcat women's tennis team will continue play into Saturday night, and will conclude on Sunday when the tournament will come to an end.
