Arizona vs. Chicago State

Post-Game Quotes

Arizona Head Coach Joan Bonvicini: “I am thankful of the Fiesta Bowl Committee and Mission Management & Trust for putting on this event. All four games were rally good games and that’s what we want.”

“I’m really proud of our team. We worked hard on end-of-game situations all week in practice. We executed to perfection tonight. We really used the clock well late in the game. We executed when we needed to, got boards when we needed to and hit free throws when we needed to.”

“Chicago State out-rebounded us, but we got the boards when we needed to, especially late in the game.”

“They are a much improved team from a year ago. They are going to win a lot of games this year.”

“Today’s game was a more of a chess match in the last six minutes. We executed to perfection and hit our free throws.”

“We challenged our team at halftime to get physical. Free throws were huge. We hit 83 percent for the game and hit them down the stretch.”

“Having a week to prepare really helped us. We’re going to use this next week to prepare for Maryland.”

“We can play a lot of different styles of basketball. Sometimes it’s not going to be pretty, but we can still be able to execute.”

“We’re doing a great job creating turnovers. We’re getting better and that’s what I like about this team.”

Sophomore guard Ashley Whisonant:

On winning the MVP

“It was unexpected. I just come out and play every day, and if I win any awards then that is just a bonus.”

“It’s all about heart, if you want the rebound bad enough then you will find a way to get it. We were getting down on ourselves, but we found a way to come back and regain our confidence.”

“A lot of my family lives in Maryland, and for some of them this game will be the first chance they get to see me play a college game.”

Sophomore forward Ch?© Oh: “We like playing physical games, and we rose to the challenge today and were able to win the game. Our intensity and our hustle on the rebounds contributed to us pulling out the win.”

“We need to stay aggressive and always play like we are behind.”

“This game gives us a lot of momentum heading into the Maryland game.”

Senior guard Natalie Jones: (On her technical foul) “I apologized to the ref and to the player as well.”

“I like games like this, they help us get ready for Pac-10 play and other big games on our schedule.”

Chicago State Head Coach Angela Jackson:

On the tournament

“It was our first time in this tournament. It is a well-run tournament and we were happy to be a part of it. Anytime we can get out into the sun is nice for us.”

On the game

We played well, but we made some key mistakes with a lot of turnovers. Arizona is a great team. They played hard and they deserved to win.”
