TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Nicole Powell had career-highs in points (29) and 3-pointers (six) and added 10 rebounds to lead Stanford to a 74-66 win over Arizona Thursday night.
The Cardinal (17-10, 11-6 Pac-10) clinched a third-place finish in the league with the win while handing Arizona (18-11, 8-9) its fourth straight loss.
After opening with 15-4 run in the first five minutes, Stanford extended the margin to 28-15 with 5:05 remaining before the half.
Arizona cut the lead to 28-20 with 4:11 left, but after back-to-back 3-pointers from Powell and Becky Bonner, the Cardinal led 34-20 at the three-minute mark and 36-23 at the break.
Trailing 50-37 with 15 minutes left in the game, Arizona went on a 9-0 run behind seven straight points from Elizabeth Pickney to cut the lead to 50-46 with 12:35 remaining.
The Cardinal responded again with back-to-back 3-pointers from Powell and Enjoli Izidor to lead 56-46 with 12 minutes left.
Arizona had cut the lead to 70-65 with 2:26 remaining when Veranda James missed two free throws that could have pulled the Wildcats to within three.
Stanford then pulled away behind free throws from Powell and Lindsey Yamasaki in the final minute.
Yamasaki provided 15 points for the Cardinal.
Pickney scored a career-high 30 points, and Reshea Bristol added 16 for Arizona.
