TUCSON - No. 7 University of Arizona Wildcat women's golf completed day two of the Bruin/Wave Invitational, in Santa Clarita, Calif., on Tuesday. The Cats sit in third place with a two-round score of 587 (+7). The three-round, three-day event is being held at the Robinson Ranch Golf Club (par 72, 6,282 yards).
After two rounds of golf, the No. 7 Wildcats have three players in the top 10, four in the top 20 and all five golfers in the top 34.
"We need to have a strong round tomorrow to have a chance to win," head coach Laura Ianello said. "Margarita Ramos led the team today with a fantastic round of three under par. We have big expectations for tomorrow and I have no doubt that we can pull it out if we give our best effort. Our short games need some attention and we will be addressing that we get back to Tucson."
The hosting No. 3 UCLA Bruins lead the team race with a 575 (-1). In second place, No. 27 Pepperdine rounds out the top three with a 584 (+8). Individually, Rebecca Lee-Bentham of Texas and Stephanie Kono of UCLA share the lead, both shooting a two-round score of 141 (-3).
For Arizona, No. 30 junior Margarita Ramos moved from tied for 21st to tied for sixth with a 69 (-3) in round two. She now holds a two-round score of 144 (E). No. 19 junior Isabelle Boineau sits in a tie for eighth place after carding a 76 (+4) on day two. She now holds a combined score of 146 (+2). Freshman Haley Andreas sits in 10th place with a second-round carding of 74 (+2). After two rounds, she has shot a 147 (+3).
Senior Alejandra Llaneza sits in a tie for 19th after starting the day at tied for 17th. She shot a 76 (+3) on day two and holds a combined score of 150 (+6). Junior Nikki Koller rounds out the Arizona five in a tie for 34th place. She shot a 76 (+4) on day two and holds a two-round carding of 154 (+10).
The 2011 Bruin/Wave Invitational will continue Wed., March 2, with an 8 a.m. PT/9 a.m. MT tee time scheduled. Live results can be found at golfstat.com.
