Women's Golf Takes Fourth at Pac-10 Championships

SEATTLE, Wash. ?- The Arizona women’s golf team finished fourth at the Pac-10 Conference Championships, which concluded on Wednesday.  The Wildcats carded a 310 (+22) in the final round to bring their total score to 923 (+59) after 54 holes of play.  Arizona State claimed the Pac-10 title with a score of 897 (+33),eighteen strokes ahead of UCLA.


Arizona State’s Anna Nordqvist and UCLA’s Tiffany Joh competed in a sudden death match-up on the 18th hole.  Joh prevailed as the Pac-10 individual champion after Nordqvist missed her birdie attempt.  Nordqvist was named the Pac-10 Player of the Year, as well as Freshman of the Year.  Arizona State Head Coach Melissa Luellen was named Coach of the Year.  Pac-10 Teams were announced following the awards ceremony.


For the Wildcats, junior Alison Walshe grabbed her sixth top-10 finish after carding a 76 (+4) in the final round.  The Westford, Mass., native finished in sixth place with a final score of 225 (+9).  Walshe was also named to the All Pac-10 First Team.


Sophomore Adriana Zwanck tied for 11th with a 54-hole total score of 229 (+13).  Zwanck equaled her first round score of 77 (+5) on Wednesday to garner her fourth top-20 finish of the season.  Fellow sophomore Amanda Wilson finished two strokes behind Zwanck after also carding a five-over par 77 in the final round.  The Hilo, Hawaii native tied for 15th place with a score of 231 (+15).


Junior Mary Jacobs finished in 26th place with a  score of 238 (+22) after 54 holes of play.


Both Jacobs and Zwanck were named to the All Pac-10 Second Team, which is the second time in Zwanck’s two years that she has been named to an All Pac-10 team.


Freshman Emily Mason carded an 86 (+14) during the final round to bring her total score to 254 (+38).  Mason finished in 46th place.


The Wildcats will next be in action when they participate in the NCAA Regionals, May 10-12.  The location of play for Arizona will be announced on April 30.
