TUCSON - The Manning Award, sponsored by the Allstate Sugar Bowl, has named nine quarterbacks as its "Stars of the Week", including University of Arizona senior Matt Scott. College football fans can now go to the Allstate Sugar Bowl Facebook page to vote for what they think was the best performance from this past weekend. When voting closes on Thursday at 11 a.m. CT, the top vote-getter will be announced as the Manning Award Player of the Week.
Scott, a native of Corona, Calif., threw for a career-high 387 yards. His 30 completions and 46 attempts each established new career marks, while his two scores tied his personal best in a game. His 74 rushing yards marked the first time a UA quarterback surpassed 50 net yards since he gained 71 at UCLA in 2010.
The team's 624 yards of total offense rank as the second-most in UA history. The single game record is 691 yards against New Mexico in 1969. UA won its season opener for the fifth-straight season and the ninth time in the last 13 years. UA improved to 76-26-5 all-time in season openers.
Arizona welcomes No. 19 Oklahoma State to Arizona Stadium on Sat., Sept. 8 at 7:30 p.m. The game will be aired live on the Pac-12 Network. Tickets are available at the McKale Center Ticket office, by visiting ArizonaWildcats.com or by calling 520-621-2287 or 1-800-452-CATS.
