TUCSON, Ariz.- Arizona’s Men’s Golf Team crashed down the leader board with a third round score of 316 (+28) Sunday, the worst round of any team in the three-day tournament. The Cats sat comfortably in third after day two, five strokes better than fourth place Clemson, and were on pace to collect their third bronze in as many events. Those hopes were shattered by a terrible third round in which no Wildcat shot better than 78 (+6).

UNLV defended its title in its own event, getting the best of Oklahoma State, which lead the tournament by 12 strokes entering today’s finale. UNLV shot a 282 (-6), bringing their total to 855 (-9), one stroke better than the Cowboys. Despite solid rounds on days two and three, top ranked Georgia couldn’t overcome the first round hole 303 (+15) it dug itself in. Georgia once again climbed the leader board, this time using a 283 (-5), to boost itself into third, capping a nine place improvement from its first round total, which left it in 12th. The Bulldogs, however, were never in contention, they finished 15 strokes back. Florida, 872 (+8), finished fourth, and USC, 879 (+15), fifth.

Cameron Tringale of Georgia Tech cruised to a five stroke victory individually. His 68 (-4) on day three brought his total to 205 (-11). Day two leader Morgan Hoffman of Oklahoma State and nationally top ranked golfer Matthew Giles of USC tied for second at 210 (-6). Fourth and fifth place went to a pair of Runnin’ Rebels; Brett Kanda finished fourth, and Eddie Olson finished fifth.

Heading into the final round, three Arizona golfers sat inside the top 20. At day’s end, only one remained. Tyler Neal, who started the day in seventh, barely held on to be the only Wildcat to finish in the top 20. His 221 (+5) put him in a tie for 19th. For the second straight day, Brad Nicholson and Rich Saferian had the best two rounds of any Arizona golfer. The two, who were tied for 24th coming in, each carded a third round of 78 (+6), dropping them into a tie for 39th. No Wildcat dropped further than Jonathan Khan who fell from 16th to 45th following his round of 81 (+9). Tarquin MacManus, who tied for 48th, also shot an 81. Philip Bagdade, playing as an individual, finished in a tie for 75th.

The Southern Highlands Collegiate Championship was contested at the Southern Highlands Golf Club in Las Vegas, Nev., a par 72, 7,510 yard course.
