TUCSON, Ariz.- The No. 9-ranked Cal volleyball team (14-0, 6-0 Pac-10) remained undefeated on the season after handing Arizona its first 3-0 sweep of the year at McKale Center on Saturday night. Game scores of the match were 30-26, 33-31, 30-26. The loss was the fifth straight for the Wildcats.
Arizona's season-long struggle on offense took another twist against the Golden Bears on Saturday. Overall, the Wildcats passing and setting were proficient enough, but far too many attacks missed their mark and fell out of play. Arizona's 30 hitting errors on the night doubled Cal's 15, as UA hit just .190 and gave away numerous points on unforced errors.
Individually, Arizona sophomore Kim Glass led all players in the match with 19 kills on .262 hitting. Cal's Mia Jerkov, the reigning Pac-10 Player of the Week, was the only other player in the match to tally double-digit kills, finishing with a team-high 14 on .265 hitting. Teammate Camille Leffall finished with nine kills on 17 swings with just one error for a match-high .471 attack percentage.
Arizona, which hasn't lost five straight matches since 1995, will hit the road next week with a trip to Los Angeles to face No. 8-ranked UCLA on Friday and top-ranked USC on Saturday. First serve against the Bruins is slated for 7 p.m. and at 4:30 for the match with USC.
