TUCSON--An RBI double by Jarrah Meyers and a run-scoring single by Andria Bledsoe in the top of the eighth gave Notre Dame a come-from behind victory over New Mexico State, 9-7, and kept NMSU winless in the Pepsi Arizona Softball Classic at 0-4.
Jodi Spino singled in a run and Mel Briggs doubled in two more to knock out Notre Dame starter Steffany Stenglein in the bottom of the first and open a 3-0 lead for New Mexico State.At that, the Aggies stranded three runners.
Successive singles by Linzi Westcott, Kelly Rhyne and Spino pushed across another NMSU (6-12) run in the second.
Notre Dame (2-2) scored five runs, four of them unearned because of two throwing errors by NMSU shortstop Shayne Gipson and another error by first baseman Heather Nobbe, in the top of the fourth to take the lead, 5-4. In the fifth, Liz Hartmann's RBI double made it 6-4.
Amber Logsdon and Tiffany Ruiz opened the NMSU sixth with singles and after a fielder's choice, both scored on Westcott's triple down the rightfield line to tie the game. Rhyne singled in Westcott for a 7-6 lead. But Meyers led off the Notre Dame seventh with a double and later scored on a single by Hartmann to tie the game at 7 all.
