Tempe, Ariz. - The Arizona women's volleyball team (13-9, 3-7) lost to in-state rival Arizona State 3-0 Sunday at Wells Fargo Arena.
The Wildcats lost to the Sun Devils 25-22, 25-17 and 25-23 to split the season series 1-1.
Arizona faced some of the same problems that has plagued them all season, they had trouble closing out sets and errors doomed the Wildcats.
In the third set, the team battled back, down 20-17 and tied the set at 21. The Wildcats then took the lead on a kill by senior Brooke Buringrud. The Wildcats had two different one-point leads late in the third set, but squandered both with services errors and the team could never recover.
As a team, Arizona committed 18 hitting errors and 10 service errors compared to ASU's 10 and five. The Wildcats were also outhit by their rivals .307 - .189.
The match was shown live on FSN Arizona and will be replayed later in the week.
The Wildcats return home to take on nationally ranked Stanford and California next weekend. Arizona plays Cal Friday night and then Stanford Saturday. Both matches are at 7:00 p.m. at McKale Center.
