Head coach David Rubio and the Arizona volleyball team announced the signing of three student-athletes for the 2012 season. Emily Bemis, a 6-2 outside hitter from DeKalb, Ill., Lauren Fuller, a 5-11 setter from Los Angeles, Calif. and Olivia Magill, a 6-2 middle from Seattle, Wash. have signed national letters of intent to attend the University of Arizona.
Bemis, named an Illinois Gatorade Player of the Year, served as an outside hitter at DeKalb High School and Kane County. At DeKalb, Bemis led her team to a 25-3 overall record and 11-0 in conference play. In her senior year, she posted 69 kills, 3.0 per game, and 25 service aces.
“Emily is a sixth-rotation player with a big arm,” Rubio said. “She has the ability to be a scorer for us on the left. She has a strong family background in volleyball.”
Fuller, a setter for Marymount High School and the Sunshine Volleyball Club, is the seventh-ranked player in the state of California and 19th nationally. She led the Sailors to a 28-4-1 overall record and a 8-0 mark in conference play.
“Lauren is a terrific setter,” Rubio said. “She will certainly will help us from a depth standpoint at the setting position.”
Magill, a middle hitter for Seattle Prep and Washington Volleyball Academy, led the Panthers to a 26-6-4 overall record and a 10-2 mark in conference play. Magill posted 399 kills, 149 digs, 51 blocks and 27 aces in her senior season.
“Olivia is a freakish athlete, who we feel will make an immediate impact in our program,” Rubio said. “She is a great kid with a strong work ethic.”
