TUCSON, Ariz. - University of Arizona women’s golf freshman Margarita Ramos was recently named to the 2008 National High School Golf Coaches Association (NHSGCA) Girls All-America Team for achievements during her high school golf career.
Ramos, a native of Mexico City, Mexico, was a four-year letterwinner at Xavier College Preparatory in Phoenix. She was a member of back-to-back 4A state championship teams as a junior and senior and was joined on the All-America list by former teammates Kaira Martin, Cheyenne Woods and Katie Allare. The Player of the Year award went to Allare, who now competes at the University of Notre Dame.
The NHSGCA Awards are selected by section representatives of the National High School Golf Coaches Association. The awards are based on playing ability, academics, citizenship (community activities) and extra-curricular activities (additional school activities).
Arizona, ranked #17 in the latest National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) poll released on September 25, are on the road in Illinois next Monday and Tuesday, October 6-7 at the Windy City Collegiate Championships hosted by Northwestern University at the Evanston Golf Club.
