KAHUKA, Hawaii -

Arizona climbed within four strokes of third place Thursday at the John Burns Intercollegiate, shooting a 285 (-3) on day two to tie for sixth on the tournament, up three places from ninth, where they settled at after one round.

Arizona was led by Erik Oja, whose 67 (-5) placed him in a tie for ninth individually and put him in position to claim his first career top-10 finish. Also in the tie for ninth is Jonathan Khan; the senior has two top-10 finishes so far this season.

It is a two-team race for first between California and Texas A&M. The Golden Bears and Aggies are the only two teams under par and comfortably under par. Cal is in first at 19-under and Texas A&M trails by eight strokes.

Cal has four players in the top-10 and Texas A&M has the clubhouse leader to take the separation into the third and final round.

Texas A&M’s Conrad Shindler leads the tournament at eight-under with Cal’s Eric Mina and Max Homa trailing by only a stroke at seven-under. Texas A&M’s John Hurley is competing as an individual, thus his score does not count toward the team total. Hurley is tied for fourth at five-under with Ben Kohles of Virginia.

The Cats are in a tie with Fresno State for sixth, five-over for the tournament. The two trail fifth place SMU by a single shot and are just behind Virginia and Nevada, who are tied for third at one-over.

Tarquin MacManus fell to 20th from eighth despite playing the second round just a stroke over par. John Kostis, playing as an individual, is tied for 39th. Stefan Cox is nine-over and tied for 59th and Tye Beall is tied for 82nd.

The John A. Burns Intercollegiate final 18 holes will be held tomorrow, Friday, at the Turtle Bay Resort's Arnold Palmer and George Fazio Courses. The Palmer Course is a par-72, 7,198-yard layout, while the Fazio Course is a par-72, 6,712-yard layout. Live tournament scoring can be found at www.golfstat.com.
