TUCSON, Ariz. - A season that has been anticipated since the middle of April tips off this evening as the Arizona women's basketball team takes part in the annual Red/Blue Game in the McKale Center at 7:00 p.m.
Instead of playing a typical intrasquad scrimmage, the Wildcats will once again suit up as a complete team against a group of male student managers. The game will also be the first opportunity for new head coach Niya Butts to roam the sidelines in a game situation.
Butts became just the 8th head coach in program history on April 3, 2008, taking over a program that is just four seasons removed from a Pac-10 regular season championship. The Wildcats finished the 2007-08 season with a record of 10-20 and lost in the opening round of the Pac-10 Tournament.
Arizona returns three starters from last season and five letterwinners overall while welcoming seven new faces to the squad as well as an entirely new group of assistant coaches. Admission to the event is free and seating for the game is open.
