Swimming and Diving Falls to Stanford

TUCSON, Ariz. - The Arizona tandem of Kevin Cordes, Bonnie Brandon, Lauren Smart, and Samantha Pickens each earn earned multiple victories despite falling to Stanford on Saturday afternoon at Hillenbrand Aquatic Center. The women lost 161-139 while the men fell 173-115.

Cordes won the 100 breast with a time of 54.16, and later won the 200 breast in 1:58.96. Identical to her last time out, Brandon won the 500 and 1000 free, with times of 4:49.87 and 9:53.53 respectively. Smart won the 100 back (53.83) and 100 fly (54.15), while Pickens was victorious in the 1m (300.38) and 3m (317.85) dives.

Other first-place finishers included Margo Geer, Ellyn Baumgardner, and Michael Meyer. Geer swam to first in the 100 free with her time of 48.56, and Ellyn Baumgardner won the 100 breast with a time of 1:01.94. Meyer swam a 1:50.93 in the 200 IM to come away with victory.

First place was also earned in a pair of relays; the women's 200 medley relay and the men's 400 free relay. The women, led by Smart, Baumgardner, Geer, and Megan Lafferty won with a time of 1:39.05. Brian Stevens, Kelly Moodie, Jeff Amlee, and Nick Popov swam to a 3:03.48 first-place finish for the men.

From here, the team will head to Austin, Texas for a tri-meet with Texas and Southern Methodist Feb. 1-2.
