DAVIS, Calif. – The University of Arizona earned a second place victory in at UC Davis, posting a team total of 194.100. In first place was San Jose State with a 194.125. Third went to UC Davis with a 191.600 and rounding out the meet was Alaska Anchorage with a 187.475.
The Wildcats started the night off strong on beam, earning a new season high 49.125. The Cats went one, two, three on the event, with senior Katie Matusik earning her second score of 9.90 for the season (for first place), junior Molly Quirk posting a 9.850 for second place, and junior Aubree Cristello and senior Britnie Jones tying for third with scores of 9.800.
Arizona then rotated to floor, where they had a difficult time obtaining its normal scores, earning a 47.800. Leadership came from Cristello, who won the event with a 9.725 and senior Rebecca Cardenas who tied for second with a 9.675.
On vault the team averaged a 9.650 to total a 48.250 overall. Quirk was the standout for the Wildcats, posting a score of 9.700. Sophomore Jordan Williams had the second highest score with a 9.675.
The team picked it up on bars, earning a total 48.925. Cristello took second place overall with a 9.850, followed by Matusik who took third with a 9.825. Cardenas and Quirk contributed as well, posting scores of 9.775 and 9.750 respectively. Bars also marked the debut of freshman Danielle Buchanan, who earned a 9.725.
Cristello and Quirk both made their mark in the all-around again this week, posting a 39.025 and 38.750 to take second and third place (respectively).
Arizona will have only one day to regroup, heading to Palo Alto, California to take on conference opponents Stanford and California on Sunday, March 4 at 2:00 p.m.
